Is Your Customer In-Flight Experience Sliding in the Right Direction?

2018 is set to be a great year for the aviation industry. There’s been a rise in demand for air travel as a direct result from factors like lower fuel prices, rising disposable income, an expanding middle class, and an increase in the number and size of low and ultra-low cost carriers reducing overall travel costs.

According to ‘Oliver Wyman’s Global Fleet & MRO Market Forecast Commentary 2018–2028’ as airline operators look to the future of their fleet, they face a couple of challenges. The first is that there is a strong demand for new, lighter and more technologically advanced aircraft, but production challenges have many airline operators delaying the retirement of some older aircraft to allow for flexibility in dealing with any unforeseen delays. Wyman’s latest MRO Report shows that a third of respondents are even reactivating aircraft they have pulled from long term storage.

The second challenge outlined in the report, is that many airlines favor small and midsize wide-bodied aircraft, such as Boeing’s 777 and 787 and Airbus’ A350. These newer aircraft have longer airframe maintenance intervals, essentially extending the time between scheduled maintenance downtime. While this has a positive impact on airlines’ bottom lines, it causes a small problem for them keeping up their interiors. Whereas conventional check intervals once provided carriers a time slot to refurbish interior components—such as seats, partitions, adjustable headrests, sliding tables overhead bins, and lavatories—newer, technologically advanced aircraft with extended check intervals no longer afford timely opportunities for cabin repairs.
As maintenance intervals increase in length and older or retired aircraft stay in service, it is even more essential that interior components are robust and reliable. A problem such as a faulty seat could make or break the customer experience. That poor experience could result in having to compensate the customer or worst, the potential loss of that customer to a rival airline.

TUMA offers compact, lightweight, high load bearing interior sliding systems for aircraft cabins. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only supplier that can offer a complete and customized sliding system solution for a first class or business class seat. A typical system could include not only the slider, for example our precision, heavy duty two-way slider, but also the mounting bracket and other fixtures or fittings like trays. The same approach applies for items like sliding tables, galley area carts and storage, as well as aircraft loading or luggage compartments. We construct our systems using lightweight, aircraft grade aluminum that complies with all necessary regulations and will easily plug right into your existing setup. TUMA’s team of engineers will provide you with a one-stop shop that saves you time and money working with multiple vendors and ultimately ensures customers get the best, hassle free in-flight experience.
